Movie quotes
Okay, okay, I'm doing the meme too.
  1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
  2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
  3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
  4. Looking them up is cheating, please don't.
I'm not very good at this game. Even when I picked movies I liked (including the only movie I ever declared my Favorite Movie Ever, bonus points to whoever guesses which one that is), I don't remember what anyone said in them. Anyway, some are easy, and some are translated, and some are... well, I'm not sure anything is terribly obscure.
  1. "Do you think you could beat up Bruce Lee?"
    "No."
"I mean, if you knew karate?"
    "Nope."
"What if he wasn't allowed to kick, and you were *really* mad at him?"
    "No."
    (Unbreakable, mjperson)
  2. "But you're always saying that you wanted a cheerful and pleasant household."
"Winifred, I should like to make a slight differentiation between the word cheerful and just plain giddy irresponsibility."
    (Mary Poppins, astra_nomer)
  3. "If anything goes wrong, make a sound like a dying giraffe."
"What's a dying giraffe sound like?"
    "WUUUUUaahhh! WUUUaaaaaaahhhhh!"
    (South Park, ironrat)
  4. "You are what you love, not what loves you. That's what I decided a long time ago." (Adaptation, ricedog)
  5. "[He] is late. [She] can only see two explanations. 1 - he didn't get the photo. 2 - before he could assemble it, a gang of bank robbers took him hostage. The cops gave chase. They got away... but he caused a crash. When he came to, he'd lost his memory. An ex-con picked him up, mistook him for a fugitive, and shipped him to Istanbul. There he met some Afghan raiders who too him to steal some Russian warheads. But their truck hit a mine in Tajikistan. He survived, took to the hills, and became a Mujaheddin. [She] refuses to get upset for a guy who'll eat borscht all his life in a hat like a tea cozy." (Amelie, rifmeister)
  6. "Listen closely. I'd like to help you but I can't. I'd like to say, take a copy of your policy to Norma Wilcox on... Norma Wilcox, W-I-L-C-O-X... on the third floor, but I can't.
I also do not advise you to fill out and file a WS2475 form with our legal department on the second floor. I would not expect someone to get back to you to resolve the matter quickly. I'd like to help, but there's nothing I can do."
    (The Incredibles, astra_nomer)
  7. "Don't take that food! We're gonna get in trouble!"
"Don't worry, you've got Daddy with you. He's got credit cards and cash!"
    (Spirited Away, shumashi)
  8. "What have you been doing with your life?"
    "Uh... professional killer."
"Oh! Good for you, it's a... growth industry."
    (Grosse Point Blank, greyautumnrain)
  9. "Where are we?"
"Well, let's see. We're just traveling down this little black line here, and uh, just crossed that little red line over here."
"Look, why don't we just take that little blue line, huh?"
    "We can't take that. That's a river."
    "Oh. I knew that."
    (The Muppet Movie, chenoameg)
  10. "America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've got to want it bad, because it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil who is standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the 'land of the free'? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the 'land of the free.'" (The American President, readsalot)

Current Mood: confused bandwagon-jumping

I know 3, 6, 7, 8. (I almost used 7 myself). 5 totally remind me of a quote from a Muppet film, I'm pretty sure the first one, although it's obviously not that film. Oh wait, now I have a guess for 5. Is it Amelie?

I'm pretty sure 8 is Gross Point Blank

It is. :) (Too many of the quotes from that movie lose a lot of their sparkle without John Cusack saying them...)

3 sounds awfully familiar, but I can't quite place it.

10 has to be something by Aaron Sorkin, and since this isn't TV, that means it's The American President.

Technically, that category also includes Charlie Wilson's War now, but you're right. :)

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! You want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.

I had the exact same thought on #10, plus I was hearing it in Martin Sheen's voice.

3 is the South Park movie, if I recall.

Hunh, 1 & 4 both sound familiar. 1 isn't from the movie with Mr Furious is it? What the heck was that called?
firstfrost From: firstfrost Date: February 22nd, 2008 03:41 am (UTC) (Link)
You're thinking of Mystery Men, which it isn't. But that's not too far off.
crs From: crs Date: February 22nd, 2008 01:07 pm (UTC) (Link)
1 isn't Shrek, is it?
aaaugh. it is so naggingly familiar.

I really think #9 is a conversation between Fozzie and someone else. But I'm not sure which of the Muppet Movies it is.
chenoameg From: chenoameg Date: February 22nd, 2008 04:52 am (UTC) (Link)
In fact, I think it's the prelude to "Moving Right Along"

I suppose this is a test of whether you have email notification on :)

4 is Adaptation, which I just saw over the weekend.
