Questions Meme - Qualified Perceptions
Questions Meme
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I'm supposed to respond by asking you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

  1. You're offered a job at twice your current salary, being a lab tech in some virology lab somewhere. Do you take it?
No. I'm not actually good at being a biologist, nor did I enjoy many aspects of it. (I could only really care about the very specific thing that I was working on; other related bits of science weren't nearly so interesting. I make enough money to be comfortable, at the moment. The answer to this might be different if harrock was going to permanently be a starving writer, or if I decided I really had to buy my dream house, or if I started hating my current job (which I don't, despite my occasional complaints).
  2. What one game that you've GM'd would you most want to re-write and/or re-run?
Calypso. The biggest thing I'd want to fix is my darned packet stuffing error (the ritual translations were supposed to be the randomized bits, not the rituals. That pretty much destroyed that whole set of plots. And I think today's Guild would still like it, while something like Epilogue (which also has bits I'd like to fix) might seem more dated. Of course, it wouldn't fill.

  3. Would you rather be Tzarina of All the Russias in the 1800's, Queen of England in the 1500's, or Empress of Rome in the 50's?
Hmm. All the answers that come to mind are sort of flippant. "Queen of England, because I don't speak Russian or Latin." But then, "Not Queen of England during the 1500s, because being married to Henry VIII seems like a bad plan." Being Queen Elizabeth, however, would be kinda cool. And I could find out who really wrote Shakespeare.

  4. You thwart a terrorist attack on the National Cartoonist Association. For a reward, they offer you a recurring role in the strip of your choice. What strip do you choose, and what role does your character fill in the strip?
This is actually something of a hard one. I don't think I'm political enough to be in Doonesbury; I'd have to be one of the more comic relief characters like Boopsie. (Though I'd love to have been Lacey Davenport, except that she's dead now). Stone Soup and Rose is Rose seem like nice friendly places to be, though they're sort of self-contained. Wait, wait, over-identification. This isn't a question about which strip would I like to live in, and I don't have to be me. Though it's hard to avoid thinking that way. Anyway, I guess I'd be in Rose is Rose, either as another little kid (it's sort of sad that Clem is Pasquale's biggest play buddy, since he's such a meanie), or maybe as a babysitter. (Rosalind had a good recurring role in Calvin and Hobbes...)

  5. You have to remove one invention/technological gadget that you use on a regular basis from existence. What is it?
Hmm. It's not quite a gadget, but I'd sort of want to say "Casetracker, and all its ilk." I do not object to the Internet, or to the World Wide Web. I do not object to the use of web-tools. But I do object to the idea that a web tool is intrinsically superior to a non-web tool, that a GUI is the way to deal with things which are in fact mostly text manipulation, and that if you can't do it with your web browser there isn't a way to do it. Sadly, I don't think removing a specific tool will actually stomp out the mindset, so perhaps something more gadgety is "touch-screen computer devices" (like ATMs), which I just find goofy and unasethetic (actual incentive to make your visual space all smudgy...)

Current Mood: cranky Vicariously bitter?

1. If you could magically pass for a native (language, appearance, money, etc) anywhere in the world for a week, where would you go?

2. Everyone has books or movies that they didn't like because they were just plain bad. But what's the *best* movie or book (or play or other work of art) that you just hated?

3. What's the most frivolous activity that you're really good at?

4. If you could make one thing completely accepted as illegal (no public outcry, no court challenges), what would it be?

5. (stealing from ironrat because I liked this question) What about people surprises you most?
