Hat and Scarf - Qualified Perceptions
Hat and Scarf
This hat and scarf for ilhander continues the theme of "I have too much of that yarn I made fredrickegerman's sweater in." Well, technically, this was started before the octopus, but you saw its picture first.

I'm very happy with the scarf; the hat slightly less so. I'm not totally satisfied with the way the braid on the hat ended up interacting with the cables, and the structure of the top of the hat is weird (not my fault, but I see why the original pattern hid it all under a pompom!). The Latvian braid on the hat is supposed to match the chain stitch on the scarf (probably easier to see in the solo scarf picture), but the chain stitch is pretty subtle, and the braid pops out a lot more. Still, it all goes together moderately well.

Current Mood: cold cold

I like the cabling on the scarf.

They're actually fake cables; it's all done with decreases and yarn overs! (That's why they're assymmetric). But it does look nice and swoopy. :)

I think my next tea cozy is getting the "truly flat hat top" from the recent techknitting.blogspot.com post.

I very nearly decided to finish it that way instead of the way the pattern called for, because I thought that would make it fit better. It probably still would make it fit better, but it'd look more like a cabled fez, so I didn't. :)

Those are really nice colors. Cabling is pretty too.
