Three Sequels - Qualified Perceptions
Three Sequels
Hmm, I think I'll post just these three to get them out of the way and keep the theme consistent. (Non-review-related: I am in Florida, whee! On a boat for a week, then back.)

Lord Tophet (by Gregory Frost)
A worthy sequel to Shadowbridge, finishing the story properly. It's a story about stories and the stories-within-stories tie together with the main story in a satisfying way. Four stars, and if you read the two books as a pair, it probably wouldn't be nearly as frustrating.

Salute the Dark (by Adrian Tchaikovsky).
Last of the "Shadows of the Apt" tetralogy, it goes back to the action adventure of books one and two, and wraps up nicely. War and duels and tragedy and adventure and sacrifice and moral dilemmas and heroes and villains of all shades of grey. Still five stars.

Game of Cages (by Harry Connolly)
The sequel to Child of Fire. Again, it's somewhere between action and horror, set in a small town; again, there's a lot of running around and a lot of action, though in this case it's kind of like a survival horror RPG; the bodies keep piling up as the hero and the monster dance around chasing each other. A nicely done example of an SEP field, too. Four stars.

Current Mood: cheerful Florida

Yup! ( it will get a better post of its own afterwards; right now I'm just " ooh, I have no idea what this will be like but it should be fun!")

Speaking of sequels, I just read the third of the Bartimaeus trilogy (the Amulet of Samarkand stuff) - I thought it was a pretty good conclusion to the trilogy (and I'm usually disappointed by how series end).
