Van Helsing - Qualified Perceptions
Van Helsing
Saw Van Helsing this evening. I went expecting nothing except good CGI and Hugh Jackman (who I am obliged to like for a while, having bought the Boy from Oz CD), and it certainly had both of those. Dracula has odd Escher gravity powers, too.

The plot didn't make a lot of sense all the time, but it struck me about halfway through - it was much more like a filming of Van Helsing the One Night, rather than Van Helsing the Story.

So, you have Van Helsing, who has amnesia and is opening memory packets, and the one guy who knows who he really is. And Dracula has this mad ritual he has to do, and he's still figuring out the mechanic - will a werewolf work? No, it has to be Frankenstein's monster. Okay, he can do that, he still has time to complete the ritual before the end of game. Then there's the whole cure-the-werewolf-curse plot that various people are on, and the monk has the library research mechanic, and there's this duergar plot they put in because they needed more things for people to do... and the grave-digger who decides to try for the backstab because - who knows? That probably wasn't what the GMs intended, they're asking each other "Why did the grave-digger try to kill him? Didn't you put in his sheet that he was anti-monster?"

Definitely more fun than it had any right being, and about right for my mood today, which was not really up for anything that required thinking.

Current Mood: drained drained

I'm terribly amused by your spoilers. I may have to go see it now. :)

I have to agree, the spoilers are great. But perhaps the gravedigger was more of a GM error that was corrected last minute. The sort of "oh wait, didn't we tell you that you hated monsters? Oops. Well you do." sort of thing. ;)

And Igor, who turned into a much bigger role when Dr. Frankenstein punted after the first night.
